Due to wage cap rules, however, Iguodala became a casualty, so the warriors had enough wage relief to finalize the trade. Less than a year after tackling Iguodala, the Warriors traded Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves for veteran forward Andrew Wiggins.
When the Warriors said goodbye to Iguodala, many in the organization still imagined that there would eventually be a reunion. As Curry admitted, “I had high hopes, but you never know.”
