Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Chief Medical Advisor to the President, Anthony Stephen Fauci, OMRI, is an American physician-scientist and immunologist.

Eugenia Lillian (née Abys; 1909–1955) and Stephen A. Fauci welcomed Anthony to the world on December 24, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York City (1910–2008). His father was a pharmacist with a degree from Columbia University, and he had his own drugstore. The pharmacy’s register was manned by Fauci’s mother and sister, and he also delivered prescriptions. Despite being barely 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 metres) tall, Fauci captained the basketball team at Regis High Institution, an elite Jesuit school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Halfway through high school, Fauci made the decision to pursue medicine.

Fauci attended the College of the Holy Cross after earning his diploma in 1958 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in classics with a focus on pre-medicine there in 1962. Fauci continued his education at Cornell University’s Medical College (now Weill Cornell Medicine), where he earned his doctor of medicine in 1966 and was ranked first in his class.

From 1996 to 2006, Fauci ranked as the tenth-most-cited HIV/AIDS researcher worldwide. He has 38 honorary doctorates from universities throughout the world, and he has received a number of notable honours. He graduated from Cornell University Medical College with a medical degree.
