Caleb Swanigan: Cause Of Death, How Did Die, Death Reason
Cause Of Death:
The cause of Caleb’s death is natural.
The Allen County Coroner’s office confirmed Tuesday that Swanigan died of natural causes on Monday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A private doctor will handle his death certificate, according to Rebecca Mays, a senior investigator in the coroner’s office.
Swanigan was drafted in the first round by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2017 but did not play in the NBA until late in the 2019-2020 season.
He won Indiana’s coveted Mr. Basketball honor after leading Homestead to its first and only state title in 2015. He then played at Purdue University before announcing the NBA Draft.
How Did Die:
Caleb Swanigan died of natural causes.
The Purdue Men’s Basketball Program said Swanigan died Monday night. WANE 15, a local news outlet in Fort Wayne, Ind., received a confirmation from the Allen County Coroner’s office that Swanigan had died of natural causes.
Swanigan’s upbringing in Indianapolis was difficult. He was one of six children whose mother Tanya was trying to care for while his father struggled with crack-cocaine addiction.
The family spent time in homeless shelters before leaving for a spell in Utah, but he returned to attend Homestead High School. As a senior in 2015, Swanigan helped lead the Homestead basketball team to its first state championship in the school’s history.
Death Reason:
According to sources, natural causes are the reasons behind his death.
He was a grown child, tall and unhealthy and overweight, weighing 360 pounds before eighth grade, when he moved from Utah to Fort Wayne to live with longtime family friend and sports agent Roosevelt Barnes.
It wasn’t a matter of recruiting for Barnes, not an investment in the future as people tried to make it through the years, seeing as how Barnes played football at Purdue and Swanigan ended up at Purdue and then the NBA.
