Caleb Sylvester Swanigan was an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Purdue Boilers. He was ranked among the top preparing players in the national category of 2015 by Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN.

Former Purdue standout Caleb Swanigan, who played three seasons in the NBA for the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings, has died at the age of 25.

According to the Allen County Coroner’s office in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Swanigan died of natural causes.

Former Purdue stout and 2016-17 consensus first-team All-American Caleb Swanigan died Monday, the school announced. His family confirmed the death, and he was 25 years old.

In his childhood, Swanigan lived in five different homeless shelters and attended 13 different schools before the age of 13, he told ESPN in 2017.

In the eighth grade, he was adopted by AAU coach Roosevelt Barnes, who coached him through high school at Homestead High. Fort Wayne, Ind. There, he was named Indiana Mr. Basketball, won a state title and was named a McDonald’s All-American.

Former Homestead and Purdue star and NBA player Caleb Swanigan has pleaded guilty to a minor drug charge in Whitley County.

Mack of the Indianapolis Star reported that Swanigan, an Indianapolis native, was booked into the Whitley County Jail at 3:05 a.m. local time and bonded at 4:45 a.m. His first court date in the case is set for Monday. No further details about the arrest were immediately released.

Arrest:

Swanigan was arrested and held in the Whitley County Jail. He was released on bond.

Swanigan was pulled over by Columbia City police on December 23, 2020, east on US 30 at approximately 2 p.m. During the stop, police found 3.4 pounds of marijuana in Swanigan’s vehicle, as well as $3,415 in cash and some narcotics.

The 2015 IndyStar Mr. Basketball winner, known as “Biggie” by fans, was arrested on December 23 by Columbia City Police Department officers after a traffic stop in northern Indiana. Police said they found 3.4 pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash inside his vehicle.

In court on Monday, Judge Douglas Fahl said he was concerned that large amounts of marijuana had been found with Swanigan, but accepted the plea agreement in writing because Swanigan was a first-time offender.

He tragically passed away on Tuesday at the age of 25 for unknown reasons as countless tributes began pouring in for him. Caleb Swanigan came to prominence in 2021 when he was seen walking the streets with a weight of over 100+ pounds.
