Former Homestead and Purdue standout Caleb Swanigan, who was raised to play in the NBA from homelessness, has died. He was 25 years old.

Caleb Sylvester Swanigan was an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Purdue Boilers. He was ranked among the top preparing players in the national category of 2015 by Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN.
Natural Causes:
The ex-Boilermaker center died of natural causes, according to a representative for the Allen County Coroner’s Office in Indiana.
Caleb Swanigan, a former NBA forward and Purdue star, died at the age of 25, according to the Boilermakers.
Basketball of Indiana in 2015, Swanigan was a highly sought-after recruit, having originally chosen to stay at home and play for the Boilermakers after committing to Michigan State.
Covid:
The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed to WANE that Swanigan died of natural causes. He was not suffering from Covid-19.
Swanigan had an exceptional sophistication campaign at Purdue and was named Big Ten Player of the Year and was a unanimous First Team All-American. He was also a finalist for the Naismith Prize. After the season, he entered the NBA draft and was voted number 26.

Purdue University’s men’s basketball team announced the news of Swanigan’s death, but did not provide further details. Swanigan played for the Boilermakers for two seasons before being drafted No. 26 overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2017.

Swanigan was also the Big Ten Player of the Year in 2017, after a season in which he scored 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists for the Purdue team, leading 27-8 and making the Sweet 16.
Swanigan, McDonald’s former All-American, praised his major sophistication drive to enter the NBA Draft early. He was selected 26th overall in 2017 by the Portland Trail Blazers, where he played two seasons.
