Cristiano Ronaldo: Rape Case, Lawsuit, What Happened

Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday dismissed a federal civil case accusing him of raping a woman in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009.

Rape Case:

A Nevada woman has lost her bid in a US court to force international soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo to pay millions of dollars more than a $375,000 settlement after she claimed to have raped him in Las Vegas in 2009.

US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey in Las Vegas dismissed the case on Friday after the woman’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, found leaks and plagiarism detailing the lawyer-client discussion between Mr. Ronaldo and his lawyers.

Judge Dorsey, in his 42-page order, said an outright dismissal without an option to re-file a case is a serious sanction, but said Mr. Ronaldo was harmed by Mr. Stovall’s conduct.

Lawsuit:

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo will not be forced to pay millions of dollars in a civil lawsuit to a Nevada woman who once accused him of rape.

A trial accusing Cristiano Ronaldo of raping a Nevada woman was dropped by a district judge on Saturday, due to misconduct by her attorney.

According to court documents, Ronaldo paid $375,000 to accuser Catherine Mayorga in 2010 to keep the incident with him.

The suit accuses Ronaldo of conspiracy, defamation, breach of contract, coercion and fraud, and Mayorga’s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, estimated him to be around $25 million without attorney’s fees.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Rape Case, Lawsuit, What Happened

Cristiano Ronaldo will not stand trial for the 2009 sexual assault allegation against him. US District Judge Jennifer Dorsey of Las Vegas dismissed a rape trial Friday against the 37-year-old Portuguese football star because of the actions of Leslie Mark Stovall, attorney for her accuser Katherine Mayorga.

The judge said details of Ronaldo’s lawyer-client discussion in his case were stolen and used leaked documents.

“I think that the purchase and continued use of these documents was bad faith, and merely disqualifying Stovall would not cure prejudice to Ronaldo because the falsified documents and his confidential material were woven into the fabric of Mayorga’s claims.” U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey wrote in her June 10 order.
