Backstage at a Silverchair show in London in 1999, Johns got to know Natalie Imbruglia, an Australian actress, singer, and model. After reuniting at the ARIA awards after-party at the Gazebo Hotel in Sydney in October of the same year, they began dating. After years of intermittent dating, Johns made his longtime girlfriend Imbruglia aware of their engagement just before Christmas 2002. They later were married on New Year’s Eve 2003.
