Australian track and field athlete Eleanor Patterson competes in the high jump. On July 19, 2022, in Eugene, Oregon, the current world champion set an Australian record by jumping 2.02 metres. She jumped 1.95 metres in her Group to qualify for the final and earn a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

With her thrilling victory in the women’s high jump at the World Championships in Eugene, Eleanor Patterson became just the 10th Australian athlete to take home a gold medal.


The School of Communication and Journalism’s assistant professor of media studies is Eleanor Patterson.

Eleanor specialises in studying the informal and institutional economies of exchange and distribution in the history of broadcasting. Her work as a cultural studies academic also takes into account how ideologies, socio-political environment, and new media and technology all influence broadcasting and the practises of cultural circulation.

She broke the Australian record in 2020 after jumping 1.99 metres in New Zealand. She broke the previous Oceania Indoor mark in 2022 after leaping 2.00 in Belgrade. Marco Fassinotti, an Italian high jumper, is engaged to Patterson.

Mark Patterson and Helen Patterson are the the parents of Eleanor Patterson.

Dr. Patterson frequently serves as a guest conductor at district and all-state choir competitions as well as regional choir festivals. He encourages teamwork, originality, and fun among the singers, and he pushes the group to play at their musical peak.

The 26-year-old joins athletes like Cathy Freeman, Dani Samuels, and Sally Pearson as the eighth Australian to win an athletics world title.

Patterson won the competition with a jump of 2.02 metres, beating out Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine and Elena Vallortigara of Italy on a countback (2.00m).
