Maitlis was born to British Jewish parents in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; her paternal grandmother was a Jewish refugee who had fled Nazi Germany. She is the daughter of Marion Maitlis, a psychologist, and Professor Peter Maitlis FRS, Emeritus Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Sheffield.

Despite missing the most recent episodes, Emily Maitlis is not believed to be sick. She did really disappear from some recent Newsnight episodes, that is true.
Since they can’t recall the last time they saw the woman on the programme, several people even wonder if she has quit.
On the internet, there is, however, no formal information concerning the aforementioned incidence. The matter has not been addressed by the journalist, and online sources have not mentioned the woman’s health issues either.
