On February 7, 1991, Hanna was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She is of Lebanese, French, and Polish ancestry and has six siblings. In 2013, Hanna earned a degree in psychology and communications from the University of Pittsburgh. She belonged to the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority while attending Pitt. She worked for a marketing firm that sold goods out of a Sam’s Club after graduating from college; she rose to the position of the company’s top salesperson in the United States and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, to assist in the establishment of a new branch of the firm. But when she realised they were using a pyramid scam, she left.
Late in 2013, Hanna started posting skits to Vine. She later became famous for her Farting on the app, where she amassed about five million followers. She created a YouTube channel in 2014 called The Gabbie Show, which she renamed Gabbie Hanna in the same year.

Hanna relocated to Los Angeles, California, after graduating from college to work for online media company BuzzFeed, but she soon quit to concentrate on her YouTube and Vine channels.
