Perry passed away peacefully at his home in Gaffney, South Carolina, at around 5 a.m. on Thursday, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis G. Fowler.

Robert D. Manfred, commissioner of Major League Baseball, said in a statement on Thursday that Gaylord Perry was “a consistent workhorse and a memorable figure in his Hall of Fame career, highlighted by his 314 wins and 3,534 strikeouts in 22 years.”

Jack pitched three seasons at Limestone College under the instruction of his father, and he is the only player in team history to throw a no-hitter twice in a span of two weeks in 1990.
