Since the start of the trial in Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation case, Depp says his legal troubles have cost him major roles, including his longtime stint as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Now that the verdict in the libel case has been delivered, a former studio executive has predicted that Depp could return for the next film in the franchise.

Speculation about Johnny Depp’s return to the big screen with Pirates of the Caribbean 6, which is currently in development, has been circulating for a while now. According to a recent report in People, the former studio exec said, “I absolutely believe after the verdict that Pirates is ready to restart with Johnny as Captain Jack back on board.”

The executive added, “There are simply too many potential box office treasures for a beloved character that is deeply embedded in Disney culture.”

That being said, it’s unclear if the actor will reprise his role. During the trial, Johnny Depp argued that nothing would get him back into the franchise.

Meanwhile, reports of Dwayne Johnson replacing Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow have also emerged. The news sparked debate among fans on social media. Johnny Depp was replaced earlier in the Fantastic Beasts franchise by Mads Mikkelsen, who took on the role of Grindelwald.

Following the verdict in the defamation case, Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million while Amber Heard was awarded $2 million.
