James Edwin Webb was an American government official who served as Undersecretary of State from 1949 to 1952. He was also the second appointed administrator of NASA from February 14, 1961, to October 7, 1968.
James Webb: Net Worth, Vs Hubble, Salary, Wife, Telescope
In the North Carolina county of Granville, in the hamlet of Tally Ho, Webb was born in 1906. His father oversaw the public schools in Granville Country.
Net Worth:
As of 2022, James Webb’s estimated net worth is at least $118 million. Over the past nine years, Mr. Webb has sold more than $0 worth of CHK shares, leaving him with approximately 50,000 units of Chesapeake stock valued at over $112,914,811. He also earns $4,694,720 at Chesapeake as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary.
His largest transaction to date was the purchase of 50,000 shares of Chesapeake stock on May 28, 2019, for a total cost of nearly $98,000. Since 2013, James has traded 2,326 units every five days on average. He still had at least 1,439,322 shares of Chesapeake stock as of May 28, 2019.
Vs Hubble:
Although Webb is frequently referred to as Hubble’s replacement, we prefer to use the term “successor.” Since Webb is the scientific successor to Hubble, the results of Hubble served as the basis for its scientific objectives.
The science behind Hubble compelled us to “go beyond” what Hubble has previously accomplished by turning to longer wavelengths. Particularly, farther away objects are more strongly redshifted, pushing their light out of the UV and optical spectrum and into the near-infrared. An infrared telescope is thus necessary for views of these far-off objects, such as the first galaxies that the universe’s beginnings produced.
Salary:
James Webb receives $4,694,720 in total salary from Chesapeake for his roles as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Three Chesapeake executives are paid more, with Robert Lawler receiving the highest salary of $15,392,100.

Wife:
Mr. and Mrs. Webb were married in 2006 and welcomed their only child in the same year, which also happened to be the year that Mr. Webb was running for his first term in the Senate.
When asked about having a job and raising children, Mrs. Webb told Daily Kos “In terms of the difficulties I have as a working parent, I’m not alone. I’ve had to strike a compromise between my maternal want to be deeply involved in every aspect of my daughter’s life and my own competing interests about daycare, long hours as a lawyer, staying actively involved in my daughter’s schooling and extracurricular activities.”
Telescope:
The James Webb Space Telescope of NASA has created the most detailed and precise infrared image of the far reaches of the cosmos to date. This incredibly detailed image of the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 is known as Webb’s First Deep Field.
Webb’s perspective has seen the first appearance of thousands of galaxies, including the infrared universe’s weakest objects. This portion of the enormous universe fills a piece of sky about the size of a grain of sand stretched out at arm’s length.
