Jaws: Police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches after a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping close to the New England tourist destination of Amity Island, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) disobeys him out of concern that the loss of tourist dollars will bankrupt the community.
Jaws: SYFY, 4th Marathon, 4th Of July, Quint, Genre
Richard Dreyfuss’ character as the ichthyologist Matt Hooper and Robert Shaw’s character as the aged ship captain Quint offer to assist Brody in capturing the killer beast. The three then engage in a titanic struggle between man and nature.
SYFY:
In honour of Independence Day, SYFY is airing great summer movie marathons throughout the week, along with the conclusion of the first Quantum Leap series as part of SYFY Rewind (as we wait for the new one this fall!).
The week will continue with a throwback movie marathon featuring a tonne of action and sci-fi hits from the ’90s and early ’00s. On Monday, celebrate the Fourth of July with the Jaws-ly 4th Marathon.
4th Marathon:
This six-episode docuseries from the makers of Planet Earth and the Disneynature movies explores the remarkable tale of North America’s extraordinary wildlife in a narration by Michael B. Jordan.
The series travels through the various landscapes of the continent, from the icy Arctic to the scorching desert and everything in between, to meet the animals that survive and thrive in the harsh conditions. It then turns to the human heroes who are battling to protect our wildlife and wild places for future generations.
4th Of July:
This Fourth of July, a larger boat will be required. To commemorate July 4th, SYFY will air Jaws, Jaws: The Revenge, Jaws 3-D, and Jaws 2 in a massive summer marathon that will begin at noon and last until three in the morning. You just know that freedom and fireworks go well with big sharks.
At least Murray Hamilton’s incompetent Amity Mayor Vaughn in the classic suspense film Jaws was correct about it. With a 15-hour marathon of all four Jaws flicks, Syfy is prepared to give its own version of the July 4th shark panic.
Jaws: The Revenge, the fourth film and the absolute lowest point in the series, is placed first in the lineup, followed by the only marginally superior Jaws 3-D from 1983.
Quint:
The Jaws movie’s deuteragonist is Quint. He was a professional shark hunter who kept his boat, the Orca, on Amity Island, a made-up summer vacation destination. Robert Shaw plays the role of him.
In the book, Quint drowns as the shark drags him below after he gets entangled in the ropes of the harpoons he’s launched at it. In YouTuber Dead Meat’s Jaws Kill Count, his demise garnered the Golden Chainsaw award.
