Gerard Hugh “Leo” Sayer, an English-Australian singer and songwriter, was born on May 21, 1948. His singing career has lasted for five decades. He has lived in Australia since 2009 and holds citizenship there.
Sayer, who has an Irish mother and an English father, was born and reared in Shoreham-by-the-Sea, Sussex. Theresa Nolan, his mother, was born in the northern Irish county of Fermanagh at Maguiresbridge. Theresa grew up on her father’s tiny farm in the County Fermanagh township of Edenmore, close to the village of Killesher. In Fermanagh’s southwest, Killesher is adjacent to the community of Florencecourt. Thomas E.G. Sayer was his father. Leo, the second of three brothers—Michael was born in 1939, and Brian in 1951—went to St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School in Shoreham-by-Sea. He later attended Blessed Robert Southwell in Goring-by-Sea and then enrolled at West Sussex College of Art and Design to study graphic design and commercial art.
