After the New England Patriots’ 37-26 defeat in Week 3, quarterback Mac Jones was visibly in discomfort. With less than two minutes remaining, Jones took a hard hit and needed assistance getting down the stadium stairs before getting X-rays.
Jones, who was being assisted down the steps, appeared to be in excruciating pain. Despite the fact that Jones’ leg’s X-rays apparently came back negative, many reports claim that he most likely sustained a high ankle sprain.
How long Jones might be sidelined is unknown. After he has an MRI on Monday, the team will know more.
Despite reports that Mac Jones’ ankle X-rays were negative, the Patriots aren’t completely out of the woods.
Jones will have an MRI on Monday, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, after hobbling off the field during Sunday’s defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. The team is worried that its second-year quarterback suffered some damage that wouldn’t be shown on an X-Ray, according to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi.
Giardi tweeted, “According to team sources, the worry/fear is that Mac Jones suffered tendon and/or ligament injury.” Radiographs wouldn’t reveal that. There will be more photos taken. Pay attention.
Coach Bill Belichick stated during the post-game press conference that he was unaware of any changes in Jones’ condition. Jones was not there for his post-game press conference, but he will speak to the media on Monday.
Jones was hit by Ravens defensive tackle Calais Campbell on his final pass attempt of the game, an interception late in the fourth quarter, and instantly grasped for his left ankle.
As Jones was being struck, the 6-foot-8, 307-pound Campbell lost his footing and fell on top of him. Campbell fell on the lower portion of Jones’ bent left leg.
With a final stat line of 22 of of 32 for 302 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions, Jones. In addition, he added five rushes for 31 yards and a score.
On Sunday, the Patriots (1-2) travel to face the Green Bay Packers; Jones’ condition is currently unknown.
