Mario Movie 2023 Film Theory
Nintendo was hesitant to grant licences for the use of its intellectual properties for film adaptations following the critical and financial disaster of the 1993 movie. When Nintendo began releasing its older games on the Virtual Console service, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, became interested in creating a new movie. Through Nintendo’s collaboration with Universal Parks & Resorts to create Super Nintendo World, he also met Chris Meledandri, the founder of Illumination. A Mario movie was being discussed by the two as of 2016, and Nintendo revealed in January 2018 that it will team up with Illumination and Universal to make it. By 2020, production has already begun. A teaser trailer for the movie was broadcast via a Nintendo Direct on October 6, 2022.
In the United States, the Super Mario Bros. Movie is slated for release on April 7, 2023 by Universal Pictures.

On October 4, Nintendo tweeted the first poster for the Super Mario Bros. movie, announcing that the trailer would air on Thursday, October 6, at 1:05 PT, 2:05 MT, 3:05 CT, and 4:05 ET. Don’t get your hopes up if you were expecting for a joint announcement to coincide with the movie, as Nintendo also stated that no video game information would be disclosed during the movie’s trailer stream.
