Australian swimmer Michael George Klim, OAM, who was born in Poland, won the gold medal at the Olympics, is a former world record holder from the 1990s and 2000s.

He was born in Poland’s Gdynia. He received his education at Wesley College in Melbourne, where he currently works as the college’s top swimming coach, and at University High School in Melbourne.

After spending the previous two years battling an untreatable condition that has left him without feeling in his feet, Australian swimming hero Michael Klim is now unable to walk unassisted.

Since being diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in 2020 after finding it difficult to keep balance and experiencing numbness, the Olympic gold medalist is had to utilise walking sticks and braces for support.

Michael Klim, a three-time Olympian, has made a name for himself as a successful businessman and motivational speaker. In a recent interview, he shared the long-kept secret he had been holding inside.

He fought against recurrent back difficulties and chronic ankle troubles while having a serious medical condition. He needed assistance to stand and walk, which left his left leg with just minimal functioning.

Due to his disease, Michael Klim was unable to walk normally and required the assistance of walking sticks and braces.

After receiving a 2020 diagnosis of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, Klim’s health was too critical. As a result of seeing him in such a situation, his followers were worried about his health.

While still a student at Wesley College in Melbourne, Klim was initially chosen to represent Australia in the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 1997, Swimming World Magazine named him the Male Swimmer of the Year in recognition of his accomplishments.

In a time trial that was approved by FINA in 1999, he twice broke the world record for the 100-meter butterfly (51.81 s). At the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona, it was broken once by the Ukrainian Andriy Serdinov in the first semifinal of the 100-meter butterfly and again by Michael Phelps in the next semifinal. The following day’s final saw Ian Crocker break Phelps’ record.

In April 2006, Klim married Lindy Rama, a former model and businesswoman in the fashion industry. Rama, a Balinese princess who goes by the name Anak Agung in Bali, is the niece of Ida Cokorde Pamecutan XI, the king of Denpasar.

The couple has a son, two daughters, and two daughters. Klim is an Australian Football League fan of the St. Kilda Saints. In February 2016, Klim and Lindy made their split public.
