Nushrratt Bharuccha thinks she has become a bankable actress after her roles in Chhori and Ajeeb Daastaans. In a recent interview, she talked about how filmmakers think she can take heavy roles, especially after Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl, Hansal Mehta’s Chhalaang, Ajeeb Daastaans’ OTT anthology and Vishal Furia’s horror film Chhorii. .
The actress believes women have become more vocal both in real and real life, on social issues and taboo topics. Her film Chhorii tackled the subject of female infanticide and Dream Girl brought loneliness to light. In her next film Janhit Mein Jaari, she will play the role of a condom seller.
In a recent interview with a leading publication, she said: “The time has come now where we can have some tough conversations and I don’t think that’s just about movies. Even in an office, a woman can talk about getting her period and taking the day off. There are more conversations women can have in their lives and workplaces.
She also added, “If we can pull it off, that’s a big question. Cumulatively, the country will tell us if it has accepted us with this normality or not. We’ll know more when our film comes out.”
Nushrratt also added that she was thrilled to be offered female-led roles, she said: “After ‘Chhorii’ came out, I was offered three more female-led films, c is a success for me. Because if more producers and directors are ready to invest, it means that they have earned profits. The fact that the team is ready to do ‘Chhori’ gives me an indication that this was a success.
The actress also mentioned that she has become more bankable, saying, “Things have definitely changed. After Chhori and Ajeeb Daastaans, the filmmakers believe that I can do these heavy roles. There are producers who said” we can only think of you”, which is great… It has a lot to do with the whole work.
Speaking about her upcoming film, Nushrratt said, “For me, it was a mind-blowing thought that the girl could be at the center talking about a social message with a dash of humor.”
