Before being signed by the Brisbane Broncos, Carrigan played football with the Easts Tigers in his junior season. He was only the third Rugby League player to receive this honour since 1912 as a UQ Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honors) student in 2019.

In round 20 of the 2022 NRL season, after Brisbane’s shocking loss to the Wests Tigers, Carrigan was immediately reported to the NRL judiciary for his hip drop tackle on Jackson Hastings, which ended the player’s season. Carrigan was given a four-week suspension for the tackle.
