Australia’s dance substitute goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne saved the last penalty to secure a place in this year’s World Cup in Qatar as he beat Peru 5-4 in a shootout after a 0-0 draw after extra time in the inter-continental playoff on Monday.


Australia have been crowned the winner and will officially participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup after beating Peru 1-0 in the sixth round of a penalty kick on Monday afternoon during the final World Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile, Peru finished fifth in the Confederation of South American Football (CONMEBOL) World Cup group, giving them a final shot at qualification for the World Cup to be held in Qatar from November 21 this year.


Substitute goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who was brought in on captain Matty Ryan for the entire shootout, made two saves, including the winner, to beat Qatar 2022 against all odds and send the gold.

The Socceros were the better team at 120 minutes, but struggled, along with Peru, to make many clear chances. Ajdin Harstik had Australia’s best chance in the 88th minute, but he smashed his shot across the face after being fed in by Ever Mabil.
