The Squid Game is officially coming back to Netflix for season two. According to a message from director Hwang Dong-hyuk, the second season will see the return of Gi-hun and the mysterious front man.

Netflix announced on Sunday that the wildly popular South Korean show is on the green for a second season.

“And now, Gi-hyun returns,” director, writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk said in a letter to fans. “The Front Man Returns. Season 2 is Coming.”

The “Squid Game” is a South Korean fantasy drama in which contestants in desperate need of money play deadly children’s games to win cash prizes.

First Episode Date:

Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, confirmed that the Squid game’s second season will take place in January 2022 during an earnings call.

The creator, writer and director of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has estimated that it will release in late 2023 or at the latest in 2024.

The series became the biggest hit in Netflix history when it arrived on the streaming giant last September, launching the likes of South Korean star Lee Jung-jae (who led the talented Squid Game cast) to global fame.
