Vincent Van Gogh Parents
Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, in Groot-Zundert, Brabant, Holland. His father was Theodorus Van Gogh, a Protestant minister. A baby named Vincent who was stillborn, or dead at birth, was delivered by his mother Cornelia exactly a year before he was born. His distraught parents laid him to rest and erected a tombstone to serve as a memorial. As a result, Vincent Van Gogh grew up close to a graveyard that bore his own name. Theo, his younger brother, and three younger sisters were later born to his mother. Although nothing is known about Van Gogh’s early education, his mother did give him some encouragement to draw and paint.
