The 66-year-old Keith Simms has been identified as the serial rapist known as the “beast of Bondi.” He hails from Sidney.
The Bondi Beast, who is suspected in 31 unsolved crimes, is said to have operated between 1985 and 2001. The attacks occurred both in public (such as parks or walking trails) and in women’s homes, and the victims’ ages ranged from 13 to 55. The victims also didn’t fit a consistent profile. But they were all brutal sexual attacks.
As a result of advancements in DNA testing, Crimes Squad detectives now believe that 66-year-old Keith Simms is responsible for the attacks that occurred over a 16-year period. But it’s somewhat challenging. To begin with, Keith Simms passed away in February of this year.
Simms was remembered at his funeral on March 4 at St Andrew’s Catholic Church in Malabar as a loving “hero” and a father figure who enjoyed football, partying, and cheering on the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
That perception would be altered within a few months after police discovered Simms’ DNA was an exact match to samples obtained from 12 victims of sexual assault. Between 1987 and 2001, the police suspect him of being behind up to 31 attacks in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Police assumed they were looking for multiple offenders for a long time. Simms had a changing physical appearance as he grew older, and he used a variety of attack methods on a variety of victims.
According to the police, Simms would either opportunistically grab women while they were out walking or jogging and drag them into bushes or a remote area, or he would break into their homes in the middle of the night and attack them in their beds. His victims ranged in age from 14 to 55.
